Texas Legend & of National TV Wrestling Fame

DOINK The

CLOWN

(Matt Borne)

YES, DOINK THE CLOWN returns to Texas August 14 to be on NWA Parade of Champions Spectacular. NWA stands for Tradition and DOINK really stands for Old School Tradition having worked NWA sanctioned Shows in Texas dating back to the mid-80's. He will be so honored in his return back to Texas as one of the very few active Stars still left linked to the glorious past of NWA's Texas greatest era of popularity. This is the original Matt Borne "DOINK THE CLOWN"of WWF (WWE) fame back in the early 90's!

Matt is a 30-year veteran, and the son of another well known NWA Texas wrestler Tony Borne of the 60 and 70's, well before inventing DOINK came along. He worked Texas as Maniac Matt Borne during the 80's and early 90's, and had the biggest FEUD in Texas as Borne in 1990 against former NWA World Champion Kerry Von Erich.  Borne / Doink also wrestled for World Class, WCW, and ECW.

DOINK will be competiting in his first NWA sanctioned match in Texas in 25 Years on August 14th, 7 p.m. in Gainesville, Texas.

YOU, don't want to miss this rare opportunity to see a TEXAS LEGEND return home to his NWA Texas home. This could well be the last time to see DOINK in action in Texas before retiring?  Retirement certainly looms near. Come see Wrestling Royalty in ring action one more time, which may never come this way again.

12th Year in Business, 1998 - 2010

2nd Longest continous running

NWA Territory Worldwide!

The National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) is the largest governing body for a group

of independent professional wrestling companies and sanctions various

NWA championships in the United States and worldwide. The NWA has been in operation

since 1948. Prior to 1986, it acted as the sole governing body for most of professional

wrestling, operating as a talent/ franchiser for an inter-regional"territory" system.

NWA Southwest has presented over 630 shows to date by itself not counting affiliate shows

added since 2007, and celebrating its 12th year of business in 2010. No other wrestling

organization in Texas or Oklahoma comes close in size or National stature to NWA

Southwest, and we're the only organization operating as a Territory.

HISTORY

Texas has long been noted as one of the major NWA "hotbeds" for wrestling worldwide for

more than four decades; but in 1986, the NWA's presence in Texas ended when WCCW withdrew

its NWA membership because NWA promoter Jim Crockett, Jr. refused to send then NWA World

Champion Ric Flair to Texas to defend World title in a political squabble.

The NWA did not return to Texas until February 27, 1998, when Ken Taylor revived the NWA

brand and its history back into Texas wrestling as NWA Southwest. He was awarded

the State of Texas in January 1998, and later added the State of Oklahoma in 2003.

The first NWA Southwest show occurred February 27, 1998, in Dallas, Texas. The second

show featured Mil Mascaras and Rod Price and drew over 600 fans. NWA Southwest

opened up its own 10,000 square-foot Texas Indoor Arena on May 1, 1998 in North Richland

Hills and ran weekly shows there until November 2002. Today, NWA Southwest runs 5 to 6

major Road Shows a year all over Texas As and Oklahoma that average between 600 to 1000

fans. NWA Southwest affiliates provide another 75-80 shows annually making NWA-SW

one of the most active Territories in the entire National Wrestling Alliance.

In 2002, NWA-SW hosted the NWA's 54th Anniversary Show & Convention at Memorial

Coliseum in Corpus Christi. Since 1998 to present, NWA Southwest has hosted ten

NWA World Heavyweight title matches, five NWA World Tag Team title matches,

one NWA World Women's title match, one NWA World Junior title match, one

National Heavyweight title match, two North American Heavyweight title matches,

and one NWA North American Tag Team title match.

The legendary NWA Texas Heavyweight Belt, in particular, represents one of most

coveted and prestigious belts in all of wrestling. From the early 50's through 1986,

it was the most sought after and prized belt in the USA Southwest and played a

major role with title matches packing arenas throughout the State.
