Some background on the NWA & NWA Southwest....

The National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) is the largest governing body for a group of independent professional wrestling promotions and sanctions various NWA championships in the United States. The NWA has been in operation since 1948. Prior to 1986, it acted as the sole governing body for most of professional wrestling, operating as a talent and brand name franchiser for the inter-regional "territory" system.

Texas has long been noted as one of the major NWA "hotbeds" for more than four decades; but in 1986, the NWA's presence in Texas ended when it withdrew from the NWA to go under different independent labels. The NWA did not return to Texas again until 1998, when Promoter Ken Taylor revived the NWA brand and returned its history back into Texas wrestling as NWA Southwest. He was awarded the State of Texas in January 1998, and later added the State of Oklahoma in 2003. The first NWA Southwest show occurred February 27, 1998, in Dallas, Texas. The second show featured Mil Mascaras and Rod Price and drew over 600 fans. NWA Southwest opened up its own 10,000 square-foot Texas Indoor Arena on May 1, 1998 in North Richland Hills and ran weekly shows there until November 2002.

In 2002, NWA-SW hosted NWA's 54th Anniversary Show & Convention at Memorial Coliseum in Corpus Christi.

Since 1998 to present, NWA Southwest has hosted ten NWA World Heavyweight title matches, five NWA World Tag Team title matches, one NWA World Women's title match, one NWA World Junior title match, one National Heavyweight title match, two North American Heavyweight title matches, and one NWA North American Tag Team title match.

The legendary NWA Texas Heavyweight Belt, in particular, represents one of most coveted and prestigious belts in all of wrestling. From the early 50's through 1986, it was the most sought after and prized belt in the USA Southwest and played a major role with title matches packing arenas throughout the State.

Today's NWA in Texas centers around NWA Southwest Road Shows and its four affiliates - PWF in Amarillo, WOW in Houston, GCWA in Corpus Christi, and LAI in The Valley. NWA Southwest hosts 5-6 Road Shows a year featuring the best of NWA-SW talent, along with other national and inrernational NWA Stars..

NWA Southwest, now 630 shows stepped in history not counting any affiliate shows since 2006, and in its 12th year of business is the Standard for Pro Wrestling in Texas & Oklahoma and that tradition continues proudly in 2010.
